A Runner’s Thoughts: As you run today try to make you run a God-centered run. In other words, make your run a run in which you honor God through the voices of nature. Let yourself experience all the sounds of nature around you as you run; the wind, the trees, the leaves. Listen to the sounds of water if you run near a creek, river or the ocean. Smell the scents of nature around you. Remember in the Psalms, the rivers clap with joy and the oceans roar in praise of God, so join in the chorus with your run, your walk or any other way you might move through life. Look, purposefully, for signs of God’s creation, offering praise. Become one among the many voices of creation to give praise as you move through life today! (Adapted from Roger Joslin)

A Runner’s Thoughts: As you run today remember with each plant of your foot you feel firmness under you. Feel that firmness as the presence of God. Trust in that firmness. Know that God is running with you!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.” (Arthur Ashe)
A Runner’s Thoughts: If we run as a spiritual runner let us remember that it is being a runner that matters, it is not how fast or how far we go. The joy, the gift is in running, in the journey and not always in the destination. We have the best chance of encountering our friend God, in the midst of our run when we remain focused in the present and don’t think too far ahead! (I adapted this from a quote by John Bingham, the author of No Need for Speed: A Beginner's Guide to the Joy of Running.)
A Runner’s Thoughts: Running can be so symbolic of life and faith. In running like in life, we have to drive ourselves to overcome the obstacles. At times, we feel that we just cannot do it. But then we find an inner strength, an inner presence and realize that we are capable of so much more than we thought. And like in faith when we run we often realize that we are not alone. That God runs with us!
A Runner’s Thoughts: As we run today let’s imagine that God is at our side, running along with us. Imagine how God would look with kindness into the faces of all whom the two of us would meet as we run. Imagine how God would find good in everyone we encounter. Thus, as we run today, let us look for good in everyone. Let us look for good within ourselves. (Adapted from Roger Joslin – Running the Spiritual Path)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Now bid me run, and I will strive with things impossible.” (William Shakespeare) “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) Can’t these thoughts be found in how Jesus is asking us to live? – Have a great day whether you run, walk or move through life another way!
A Runner’s Thoughts: Remember if we have the desire to run with God, then the specifics of the techniques used do not matter very much just keep hold of the desire and God will be with you!
A Runner’s Thoughts: Remember running, walking or moving through life, in a different place every occasionally, can bring with it a different set of experiences. Each new setting can provide an opportunity to practice our spiritual running, walking, moving, by helping us to be aware of not only new things around us but also new things within us. Running, walking, moving, in a new place stretches our ability to find God in our movement, in life and in ourselves!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “One of my main goals is to show others my age that it is never too late to turn it around and be healthy and fit again.” (Scott Lithgow) So to in the spiritual life…it is never too late!
