A Runner’s Thoughts: “To each one of us Christ is saying… If you give your life out of love for others, as I give mine for all, you will reap a great harvest.” (St. Oscar Romero) and “You will not be alone if you are with God.” (St. Ignatius of Loyola)

A Runner’s Thoughts: “The point is to do everything you can to maximize the time you have on Earth.” (Kip Fontana, who defied the odds to run a 5K seven years after being diagnosed with ALS)
The challenge of life and the spiritual life each day... For those who check into A Runner's Thoughts each day or from time to time I just want you to know that A Runner's Thoughts will be silent for the next eight days while I celebrate my annual retreat!
Today, Monday July 22nd I will be traveling to Trappist, Kentucky and the Abbey of Gethsemani, where later today I will begin my eight-day retreat. For the next eight days I will be celebrating my own time of retreat which means I will be going dark as far as social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) is concerned. Also I will not be posting on my web site. No Today’s Thoughts, Today’s Prayers, Runner’s Thoughts or Today’s Blessings until Tuesday July 30th. I am sorry if you depend on these posts daily but I need to take a break and spent the next eight days solely with God. A retreat is a special time and I need to put my electronic devices away and focus on listening to God alone. If you get a chance please offer a prayer or two for me this week. I will hold all of you in prayer during my own special time of prayer! Have a great week and I will be back Tuesday July 30th. See you then! Peace in Christ's Passion...Fr. Paul A Runner’s Thoughts: Remember running, walking or moving through life another way are opportunities to search for God amid the commonplace, humdrum and ordinary activities that most often occupy our life. That is ultimately the point of a meditative run, walk or movement through life another way – we are trying to find a way to mix the mundane with the mystical, to blend the sacred with the profane, to find heaven on earth. If running, walking or moving through life another way are sacred times to us, then we have the opportunity to encounter the gift of God! (Adapted from Roger Joslin – Running the Spiritual Path)
A Runner's Thoughts: “The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” (Tommy Lasorda)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Except for .001 percent of the running population, everyone's in the exact same position: There will always be people slower than you, and people faster.” (Ask Miles) – So too if you walk or move through life another way and so too in the spiritual life…
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Faith, like active prayer is a grace. For prayer, when activated by love through the power of the Spirit, renders true faith manifest – the faith that reveals the life of Jesus.” (St. Gregory of Sinai)
A Runner’s Thoughts: We need to always remember that there are different forms of prayer, of communication with God and that they are possible in everything we do, even when we run, walk or move through life another way. So, as I have often said, let us allow our run, our walk or our movement through life another way today to be a prayer – a prayer of thanksgiving, a prayer of petition or intercession, a prayer of praise, a prayer of struggle, or a prayer seeking help or perhaps just a prayer that says hello God how are you today?
A Runner’s Thoughts: St. Teresa of Calcutta saw Christ in the face of everyone she met; Is it possible to live life in a way that models her behavior? Perhaps, as we journey through life today we might try placing a smile on our face and through it offer a blessing to everyone we meet!
A Runner’s Thoughts: Shakespeare once wrote, “Now bid me run, and I will strive with things impossible.” Jesus said, “…with God all things are possible.” Thus, if we run, walk or move through life another way with God then as we strive with things impossible they will become possible! Have a great run, walk or movement through life another way today and stay cool.
