A Runner’s Thoughts: It's important to know that at the end of the day it's not medals or where we finished that we should remember. What we need to remember is the process, the journey – what we learn about ourselves, about our relationship with God by challenging ourselves, the experiences we share with other people, the honesty that living, that prayer demands – these are things to remember because nobody can take them away from us whether we finish last or first.

A Runner’s Thoughts: We need to always remember that there are different forms of prayer, of communication with God and that they are possible in everything we do, even when we run, walk or move through life another way. So, as I have often said, let us allow our runs, walks or movements through life to be a prayer – a prayer of thanksgiving, a prayer of petition or intercession, a prayer of praise, a prayer of struggle, or a prayer seeking help or perhaps just a prayer that says hello God how are you today?
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to glorify the sublimity of that sovereign Artist who has given them being.” (St. Paul of the Cross)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “May God the Holy Spirit move within us and give us eyes to see with, ears to hear with, and hands that your work might be done.” (St. Dominic)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “In times of dryness and desolation, we must be patient, and wait with resignation the return of consolation, putting our trust in the goodness of God. We must animate ourselves by the thought that God is always with us, that God only allows this trial for our greater good, and that we have not necessarily lost God’s grace because we have lost the taste and feeling of it.” (St. Ignatius of Loyola)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Let nothing disturb you, nothing frighten you, all things are passing, God is unchanging. Patience gains all; nothing is lacking to those who have God: God alone is sufficient.” (St. Teresa of Avila)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul.” (St. Teresa of Avila)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control… If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22,23,25)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “It is a greater thing to change one’s disposition than to change one’s dress. We part with arrogance less easily than with gold and jewels.” (St. Jerome)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Not the goods of the world, but God. Not riches, but God. Not honors, but God. Not distinction, but God. Not dignities, but God. Not advancement, but God. God always and in everything.” (St. Vincent Pallotti)
