A Runner's Thoughts: A truly successful run, walk or other movement through life is one in which the work of returning to God's presence is practiced over and over again.

A Runner’s Thoughts: “The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am.” (George Sheehan) – So to in the spiritual life…the more we pray the more we will want to pray and the more we will live a life conditioned and influenced by our relationship with God. And the more we live in God’s presence, the more certain we will be that we are heading for our real goal in life: to be the people God has created us to be!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “It's important to know that, at the end of the day, it's not the medals you remember. What you remember is the process - what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands - those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish twelfth or you're an Olympic champion.” (Silken Laumann)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Running becomes religious in a robust sense when one infuses the experience – not unnaturally – with religious meaning and purpose.” (Jeffrey P Fry – “Running Religiously” from Running and Philosophy a Marathon for the Mind)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Running! If there's any activity happier, more exhilarating, more nourishing to the imagination, I can't think of what it might be. In running the mind flees with the body, the mysterious efflorescence of language seems to pulse in the brain, in rhythm with our feet and the swinging of our arms.” (Joyce Carol Oates) – Now we know why St. John was such a good mystic, writer and runner!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “I run because long after my footprints fade away, maybe I will have inspired a few to reject the easy path, hit the trails, put one foot in front of the other, and come to the same conclusion I did: I run because it always takes me where I want to go.” (Dean Karnazes)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Run into peace.” (Meister Eckhart) Merry Christmas all runners, walkers and those who move through life another way!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “And while these pounds were being shed, while the physiological miracles were occurring with the heart and muscle and metabolism, psychological marvels were taking place as well. Just so, the world over, bodies, minds, and souls are constantly being born again, during miles on the road.” (George Sheehan)
A Runner’s Thoughts: Running well is a matter of having the patience to persevere when we are tired and not expecting instant results. (Robert de Castella) So to in the spiritual life – praying and living by faith is a matter of having the patience to persevere when we are tried and instant results do not happen!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Winning isn't about finishing in first place. It isn't about beating the others. It is about overcoming yourself. Overcoming your body, your limitations, and your fears. Winning means surpassing yourself and turning your dreams into reality.” (Kilian Jornet) Winning is about a friendship with God and as the angel Gabriel reminds us that all things are possible with God!
