Running By Faith

A Runner's Thoughts...

A Runner's Thoughts: “You have to wonder at times what you’re doing out there. Over the years, I’ve given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement.” (Steve Prefontaine) So remember if we have the desire to run, walk or move through life another way with God, then the specifics of the techniques used do not matter very much just keep hold of the desire and God will be with you!

A Runner's Thoughts: “Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” (Marilyn vos Savant) So imagine that as you stretch your muscles before you run, walk or move through life another way that you are also stretching your spirit and giving it the flexibility, it needs to engage God. Make each stretch a simple prayer!

A Runner's Thoughts: Remember that if during our runs, walks or movements through life another way we have the desire to run, walk or move through life another way and pray then our movement can transform the simplest moments into divine encounters!

A Runner's Thought: Remember if you run, walk or move through life in another way towards God, God runs, walks or moves in another way twice as fast towards you. Thus, to draw closer to God it is only necessary to move in God's direction!

A Runner's Thought: “Some runners judge performance by whether they won or lost. Others define success or failure by how fast they ran, whether or not they matched their time expectations. Still others judge performance by how good they felt running, focusing on the experience. Only you can judge your performance. Avoid letting others sit in judgment of you.” (Hal Higdon) Remember each run, walk or movement through life another way helps you embark on a pilgrimage of the ordinary which often leads you to the extraordinary and sacred!

A Runner's Thoughts: “Vary your training, your running partners, and your environment. Only your imagination limits the ways you can spice up your running routine.” (Bob Glover) Try to transform your run, walk or movement through life another way today from just a run, walk or movement to a sacred experience by letting God move with you!

A Runner's Thoughts: “Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” (Marilyn vos Savant) Remember it is your intention that sets you apart from every other person. So today and every day have the intention of life and the willingness to celebrate the gift of life with every step of your run, walk or movement through life another way.

A Runner's Thoughts: Remember the little miracles of God that we encounter during a run, walk or moving through life another way are not because we finish but are because we find the courage to begin!

A Runner's Thoughts: As you run, [walk or move through life another way] today, "Seek God, and you will find God and everything good as well. Yes, with such an attitude you could tread upon a stone, and that would be a more godly thing for you to do than to receive the Body of our Lord." (Meister Eckhart)

A Runner's Thoughts: The more I talk to athletes, the more convinced I become that the method of training is relatively unimportant. There are many ways to the top, and the training method you choose is just the one that suits you best. No, the important thing is the attitude of the athlete, the desire to get to the top. (Herb Elliott) So to in the spiritual life! There are many ways to pray. There are many things that can help us connect with God but what is most important is our attitude, our desire, our faith and our willingness to let go and let God!
