A Runner’s Thoughts: “Active waiting for the Lord means not allowing ourselves to be lulled into purely private interests in our homes, but donating our attention, time and talents. It implies sharing our strengths and accepting our weaknesses in our parishes, schools, community work and in society at large.” (Joseph Cardinal Bernardin)

A Runner’s Thoughts: The reading for morning prayer today struck me as good advice as we begin our day – you might say it give us much food for thought! “Never let evil pass your lips; say only good things people need to hear, things that will really help them. Do nothing that will sadden the Holy Spirit with whom you were sealed against the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, all passion and anger, harsh words, slander, and malice of every kind. In place of these, be kind to one another, compassionate, and mutually forgiving just as God has forgiven you in Christ.” (Ephesians 4:29-32)
A Runner’s Thoughts: On this Feast of the Passion of St. John the Baptist we might ask ourselves – “Herod’s choosing appearance over substance, over truth, is an invitation to all of us to reflect on the voices to which we listen in our everyday lives.” (Sr. Chris Koellhoffer, IHM)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “I'm afraid the reason so many new runners quit is because they never get past the point of feeling like they have to run.” (John Bingham) So to in the spiritual life – people of faith give up on religion, faith and Church because they never get past living their relationship with God out of obligation rather than out of love.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful.” (Cardinal John Henry Newman)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Don’t make a bad day a bad week, a bad week a bad month, a bad month a bad year. Wake up each day and reset.” (Barry Brokaw)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you're not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you're not demanding more from yourself - expanding and learning as you go - you're choosing a numb existence. You're denying yourself an extraordinary trip.” (Dean Karnazes)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
(Oscar Wilde) A Runner’s Thoughts: “Sweat cleanses from the inside. It comes from places a shower will never reach.” (George Sheehan) We might say that prayer is the sweat of the spiritual life and it too cleanses from within and it touches places no rituals can reach. So, if we take the time to pray each day we can cleanses our spiritual self!
