A Runner’s Thoughts: “Everyone who has run knows that its most important value is in removing tension and allowing a release from whatever other cares the day may bring.” (Jimmy Carter) So too for everyone who walks or moves through life another way. It is even true for the spiritual life when we are talking about prayer…

A Runner’s Thoughts: “I don’t wear earbuds or track my heart rate. Running is not about performance for me—it’s a solitary thing, a kind of meditation.” (John Luther Adams) This can also be true for walking or moving through life another way...
A Runner’s Thoughts: “I'm afraid the reason so many new runners quit is because they never get past the point of feeling like they have to run.” (John Bingham) So to in the spiritual life – people of faith give up on religion, faith and Church because they never get past living their relationship with God out of obligation rather than out of love.
A Runner’s Thoughts: “The act of running is simple, one foot in front of the other. The art of becoming a runner is achieved through a new mindset and commitment to change, especially if it’s new to you. It’s tough, challenging, painful, sometimes lonely, regularly uncomfortable and often excruciating…but the rewards are second to none.” (Terry Lander) This can also be true if you walk or move through life another way and as you journey through the spiritual life…
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Non-runners may not believe how beneficial running can be, but it's true. Running has rocked people's lives – improving the way they look, the way they feel, the way they think, and the way they look at life.” (Florence Griffith Joyner and John Hanc)
Running, walking or moving through life another way can improve the way we pray and the way we see and understand God in our life! A Runner’s Thoughts: “How you do anything is how you do everything.” (Kristin Armstrong) This is true in running, walking, moving through life another way, life in general and the spiritual life.
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you're not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you're not demanding more from yourself - expanding and learning as you go - you're choosing a numb existence. You're denying yourself an extraordinary trip.” (Dean Karnazes)
A Runner’s Thoughts: “A runner's creed: I will win; if I cannot win, I shall be second; if I cannot be second, I shall be third; if I cannot place at all, I shall still do my best.” (Ken Doherty) Shouldn’t this be the creed for all where we run, walk or move through life another way…
A Runner’s Thoughts: “Sweat cleanses from the inside. It comes from places a shower will never reach.” (George Sheehan) We might say that prayer is the sweat of the spiritual life and it too cleanses from within and it touches places no rituals can reach. So, if we pray while we run, walk or move through life another way we can cleanses our total self!
A Runner’s Thoughts: “The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong. You always go too far for your body. You must handle the pain with strategy… It is not age; it is not diet. It is the will to succeed.” (Jacqueline Gareau) So too in the spiritual life…the soul and spirit must be strong. It is the will, the desire to be faith filled
