Today’s Blessing Prayer: Friday greetings and blessings to all! May we pause this morning to remember what happened that Tuesday Nineteen years ago and how it changed our lives. Perhaps you will think about where you were and what you felt as the tragic events of that day unfolded. Yet here we are nineteen years later still searching for peace!
My thoughts and prayers today go out to all affected by the events of that day especially to the children who lost mothers and fathers. Nothing can fill the void of their loss. May what remains unfilled always keep them connected to the gift of the person, the treasure they lost! My thoughts are also will all the people who still struggle with the events of that day either physically because of illnesses they have now, emotionally, or even spiritually. My prayers are with all of you this day and always. I hope you are continuing to navigate through these unusual and at times difficult days with faith and a hopefulness for the future. Once again as we journey through this uncertain time, I offer you Pope Francis’ Prayer… O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, and the Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of All People, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. (Prayer Composed by Pope Francis) I cannot help but reflect upon where we find ourselves today with the reality of so many wars, so many violence acts, so much anger, so little tolerance, so much need to blame, so much finger pointing, so much yelling, so much hate, so much condemnation, so much arrogance, so much self-centeredness, so little compassion, so little forgiveness, so little mercy, so little caring, so little chance for peace it seems – so my prayer of blessing for all of us today is - to ask God’s blessing upon us, may it be a solemn blessing rich in peace, strong in courage and graced by love. And may it be a blessing that we will bring it to those we love and to the piece of the world that we will touch today. May God bless us with the ability to see the plank in our own eye and the insight to see the gift, the treasure that we are and that we will share it with the world if we can just get beyond our self-centeredness and hate! Peace in Christ’s Passion…Fr. Paul
